NEW - 40s section
We have had quite a few enquiries recently from people in their forties. Some have come on one walk, seen all us "oldies", and not returned. We have decided that the best way to encourage them to stay is to form a younger section within the Group - aimed primarily, but not exclusively at those aged between 40 and 50. We have no firm ideas how this section would be run - that would be largely up to those involved.
We are hoping to get a few people together soon, perhaps on a walk, or one evening in a local pub if that suits people better. If you would like to be involved, or would just like more details, please contact Brenda Miles on 01403 242916.
West Sussex Literary Trail
Starting in April we are walking the West Sussex Literary Trail. We are walking it in 6 legs, each being between 6 – 9 miles in length. This long distance path was inaugurated in 2007 and starts from Horsham’s Shelley Fountain and finishes in Chichester. On the way, it passes places associated with some of our greatest writers.
If you would like to join us, please telephone Adrian on 01403 271150 for more details.

About Horsham and Billingshurst Ramblers
Our group, formed in March 1992, enjoys a programme of all year round weekend country walking, always with an experienced leader. There are also occasional mid-week walks, and during the summer months, some evening walks. We try to provide a varied programme to suit all ages and levels of experience, from gentle 4 mile strolls to 12 miles, for all those who enjoy a good stretch. Each year we also attempt a local long distance path.
The area covered in our walks includes East and West Sussex, Surrey, and the North and South Downs. Day walks sometimes include a pub stop but a picnic at lunchtime is generally the norm, finishing with a well-earned cup of tea at a local teashop or NT property. A sociable drink at an inn completes the evening walks.
In addition to walks we have a full social programme. These include skittles, quiz and beetle drive nights, coach trips, talk and supper evenings, an annual New Year lunch and group holidays. This year, in September, we are going to Shropshire. All events are very well supported by our members and a bonus for anyone who wants more than just walking.
The meeting place for walks is usually in front of Horsham Station, cars then being shared for transport to the start, there is always room for non-car-owners. Some linear walks are undertaken using public transport.
You can be sure of a friendly welcome, so do come and join us. You are welcome to try a few walks before making the decision to join. For more information please telephone Brenda on 01403 242916.
